Advise please - I want to go to the USA!
My dream has always been to live and work in the US.
Now I have read the page on living and working in the US and do not see any way I can do this.
Basically I am 30, single, no family ties, work in IT,
Is my dream effectively over? What is the best way to approach this, are there any avenues open to me?
I would love to try las vegas and would easily consider changing profession if need be.
Would purchasing property over there help me in any way?
Hope i dont seem too naieve but would really appreciate the help and advise.

I wouldn't say impossible, but you'll have to do some long-term planning.
Best Wishes,

And buying property will not do anything for you.
As for professions in Las Vegas...not too many of those and most aren't 'professional' in the USCIS sense...

Did you read this:

Good place to start to see which one you might do.

If living and working in the US has *always* been your dream, then for the last 10-12 years you should have been making yourself more marketable or better educated, or doing something to make you valuable to a US employer.
Unfortunately, being 30, single, with no family ties, and in IT... you become a visa risk, since there's nothing for you to return to in the UK.

Steve,
There are two things you can do other than those already mentioned here and I have not read the Pulaski's article and they might have been already covered.
If you have a BSc degree, you can find a US employer and you can come over here in H1-B. But it is very slim to get H1-B with BSc degree and you would have to wait until next April to apply H1-B unless you get a offer from non-profit or university.
Another way to come over here, this also needs Bachelor's degree. Apply to gradschool and come over here as a student. Finish your Master's degree in a year or two, find a good job and H1-B again. It is much easier to get H1-B with Master's degree, especially from a US university (they have quota).
IT skill is very valuable in the US and you will find plenty of jobs, if you get a master's degree. Wish you luck.

Anyway, I wouldn't bother with the H1B, chances are slim and IT monkeys are dime a dozen unless you've really got niche skills....best bet is looking at working for a company that has offices in the US and get in a position to transfer over to the US with the L1 visa...will have to have worked for the company for at least a year, either have specialist knowledge/skills of the company or be management level...banking tends to have a lot of transfers.
Failing that, match.com

No it's not, it's dime a dozen, most of the H1 slots are filled from a handful of companies that subscribe to the sub continent to fill the market with even more IT people, plus the H1 is basically a lottery and an expensive one at that.

Surely after all these years she's taken the oath. I mean I think she was married to Tommy Lee at least the first time for long enough. And she's got the US kids to think of. Then again she's not known for her brains...
